Biography
Dr. González Châvez obtained his Ph.D. in Italian Studies from New York University in September 2020 with a dissertation entitled “Petrarch, Metaphysical Poet: Time and Eternity in the Rerum vulgarium fragmenta.” He specializes in late medieval Italian literature—with particular interest in Dante, Petrarch, and the lyric tradition from its origins to the Counter Reformation. He has held faculty appointments at the Ohio State University, the University of North Texas, New York University, Charles University in Prague, Baylor University, and most recently at High Point University. He holds a BM in Music Performance from Texas Christian University, an MA in Italian Studies from The Ohio State University, an MA in Italian Language and Literature from Yale University, and an MPhil in Italian from New York University. His forthcoming publications include essays on Petrarch and Vittoria Colonna.
