Biography

Travis Brooks has been working with how management and technology impact the humanities and fine arts in higher education for over 14 years.  His career has encompassed every aspect of the higher education experience including being a student worker, a tutor, a technician, an administrator, and a member of the adjunct faculty.   This variety of experience has created a unique perspective on the education process.

Travis spent 6 years managing the Media Services Department of Northeast State Community College, and was responsible for all classroom technology planning, purchasing, and installation for the college during this time.  This experience led to Travis spending 7 years as the Theatre Manager of the Wellmont Regional Center for the Performing Arts and 5 years as an adjunct professor.  At various points in his career he has managed a three-camera broadcast studio, a multimedia computer lab, a box office and campus-wide ticking system, three performing venues, and many other projects.  These positions required a focus on how management practices and technology intertwined with humanities and the fine arts, which allowed Travis to gain an understanding of how technical knowledge and management skills can provide pathways to success for students in the humanities and fine arts.

As the Media Resources Manager, Travis uses his unique perspective to provide efficient and effective solutions for the diverse technology and planning needs of the college.  His primary focus is on integrating new technologies and best practices in ways that allow students to gain the best learning experience and outcomes in their pursuit of an education in the humanities and fine arts.  He manages the Recital Hall and The John Cage equipment collection, while also facilitating infrastructure planning, the technology request process, and many other projects within the college.
