Saja Parvizian, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of philosophy in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Coastal Carolina University. His primary research and teaching interests lie in early modern philosophy and classical Islamic philosophy (esp. Descartes, Leibniz, al-Ghazali, and Ibn Rushd). He is particularly interested in philosophical systems, examining the intriguing points at which ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind intersect within such systems. Some questions that guide Dr. Parvizian’s philosophical work include: What is the relationship, if any, between knowledge of metaphysics and the practice of moral virtue? If bodily sensations have intentional content, how can that content contribute to our well-being and survival? Can one reconcile an allegorical or philosophical interpretation of scripture with an orthodox interpretation? Beyond early modern and Islamic philosophy, Dr. Parvizian has sustained interests in medieval Jewish philosophy and philosophy of mind.
