Biography

Dory Rebekah Sibley, originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas, is a mother, original works artist, teacher, singer, and performer. She has been teaching for over two decades and is a pioneer in the field of Voice in the Mask. She is most known for collaborative devising, ensemble building, Voicework for original and devised performance and extended vocal techniques. Dory spent her early 20’s singing opera theatre as a coloratura soprano before she moved to Italy in 2005. After completing her MFA in Physical Theatre she went on to receive certifications in the Elemental Body Alignment System (EBAS) and Fitzmaurice Voicework®. She apprenticed for 12 years under the mentorship of Kevin Crawford, founding member of the Roy Hart Theatre Company and master teacher of Roy Hart Extended Vocal Techniques. Dory has extensive experience in Knight-Thompson Speechwork, Alexander Technique, Organic Intelligence®, mask work, commedia dell’arte, clown and various devising techniques. Before Dory decided to accept this position at CCU, she was a Core Faculty member at the Accademia dell’Arte where she taught Voice and Ensemble Performance, Voice in the Mask, ACROVoice, Movement for Musicians and EBAS for all programs. For the past 15 years, Dory has been an integral member of the Accademia dell’Arte, assisting in its development and success from both an administrative and pedagogical perspective, as well as in the Arezzo artistic community. She has curated and organized several large-scale events including the ArezzoFestival (Assistant to the Director) - festival for International University performances, the CrisisART Festival (Collective Facilitator) - international festival for young emerging artists and companies, and served as President of the Collaborative Arts Lab - an association that creates space for artistic experimentation and creation. She continues to serve the Accademia as President of the Alumni Association, which she founded in 2006.
In 2011 she co-founded the international physical theatre and mask troupe, Tut’Zanni Theatre. Tut’Zanni has performed throughout Europe and the USA, most notably Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, TheatreSquared, the NYC International Fringe Festival, the CrisisART Festival and the Capital Fringe where their original Canovaccio LOVE LETTER LOST was awarded five stars and a ‘Best of Fringe’ title. Dory has also performed her original devised work in public theatres in Arezzo, Genova, Milan, Torino, Cortona, Anghiari and Berlin. In 2014, she co-founded Women From Mars, a dark, feminist clown troupe. Their clown-noir show, SILENT REFLECTIONS, has toured the USA and Europe and was met with rave reviews.
As a mother-artist, Dory supports the Parent Artist Advocacy League (PAAL) and was recently chosen to participate in Mama Is A Maker (#mamaisamaker), an artistic residency in motherhood. She is a member of VASTA and Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity (Alumni). Dory is most proud of her two beautiful children and grateful for her jack-of-all trades husband who remains her rock and biggest support.
