Biography

Marissa Suggs obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at CCU in 2015 and furthered her education at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. In 2018, she earned her Master of Science degree in clinical counseling psychology and soon became licensed as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in S.C. Throughout her graduate experience, she had the pleasure of working with diverse populations, all while applying learned skills. Courses she found that helped solidify her career trajectory were psychopathology, career/lifestyle counseling, and neuropsychology.

Initially in her counseling journey, she worked with substance abuse clients in an outpatient setting. Later, she went to work for a state agency, where the bulk of her experience was in working with families, couples, clients in crisis, and individuals experiencing mental health and life challenges. Eager to gain experience in career and lifestyle counseling, she pursued work as a school clinician, where she provided counseling and guidance in the academic setting. This was an incredibly rewarding experience, and she soon realized working with adolescents was her niche.

The best piece of advice she can give students is to, "Embrace the journey of college. This is one of the most exciting times of your life simply because you’re in pursuit of figuring out who you are, what your future is going to resemble, and ultimately what your contribution to society will be. Embrace it!"
