Teaching Interests

My educational background is in marine fish ecology, but since coming to CCU my research has focused more on what works in formal and informal science and environmental education, and how to measure that. I have participated in numerous teacher workshops focused on hands-on, inquiry-based learning strategies. I teach interpreting science for non-scientists, vertebrate zoology, and animal behavior. My niche in the Coastal Marine Systems Science graduate program is to serve as an advisor for professional studies track students working on projects related to informal (outside of school) science or environmental education. I sometimes also serve as a committee member on fish-related research projects.

Areas of Expertise

  • Evaluation of formal and informal science and environmental education
  • Informal science communication
  • Vertebrate ecology/behavior
