Black Alumni Weekend 2020
at Coastal Carolina University
The fourth annual Black Alumni Weekend sponsored by the Black Alumni Chapter of the Coastal Carolina University Alumni Association will be held March 27-29. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with your fellow alumni, raise funds for student scholarships, and foster undergraduate mentorship.
Your registration includes tickets to all events, an Alumni welcome bag, and renewal of your Alumni Association membership. Most importantly, a donation toward the Pat Singleton-Young Student Leadership Annual Scholarship will be made on your behalf. About Pat Singleton-Young '75, '78.
Friday, March 27, 2020:

2:00 p.m. • 1st Black Alumni Chapter Meeting • Singleton Ballroom
We will discuss the future of the Black Alumni Chapter including new leadership, and formalize official bylaws to govern the chapter going forward.
4:30 p.m. • A presentation by Dr. Ruha Benjamin • Alford Ballroom
A Conway, S.C. native, Dr. Benjamin is a professor of African American Studies at Princeton. In this presentation, she will speak on race and social justice in today’s society. About Ruha Benjamin, Ph.D.

1–2:30 p.m. • Lunch with WOC (Women of Color) and AAIM (African-American Initiative for Males) students • CINO Grille
Sit down and have a bite to eat with students who can learn more from the Alumni experience. This is a fun networking opportunity to mentor future alumni in an casual setting. Lunch tables will be grouped together by career field.
2:30 p.m. • Campus Tours • Depart from CINO Grille
Join us for a walking tour of CCU’s beautiful campus. This tour will include new buildings and areas, as well as a special viewing of the recently dedicated Singleton-Young Hall.
3–4:30 p.m. • State of Black CCU (Open Forum) • Student Union Theater
Discussion with many of the stakeholders who help make up the black student experience including Atiya Stokes-Brown, Ph.D., CCU’s first-ever vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion, Travis Overton, vice president for executive initiatives/chief of staff, black faculty members, and student leaders on campus. The goal of the discussion will be how everyone can help foster and grow the quality of the black student experience at CCU.
5:00 p.m. • National Pan-Hellenic Council Yard Show • Prince Lawn
Help National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) celebrate the finale of NPHC week with a yard show presented by the Divine 9 organizations on campus. Greeks, bring your fellow sorority sisters and fraternity brothers to show the undergrads some strolls from “back in the day.” Your ticket will be included in registration.
9–11:00 p.m. • Black Alumni Social • 810 Billiards & Bowling - The Market Common
Relax and have some fun at one of Myrtle Beach’s top entertainment venues. Gather together for a game of bowling, mini-golf, board games, or other activities at this one-stop venue. Appetizers will be provided, and drinks will be available to purchase. Your bowling and shoe rental is included in the registration.
