Current catalog description

ARTS 411 Advanced Painting I (3 credits)(Prereq: ARTS 311 or ARTS 312) Upper level course for students with substantial backgrounds in painting. The choice of medium and content will be left to the student. Emphasis is on creating a mature body of work, developing personal expression and style.

Proposed catalog description, in the present tense, including prefix, number, title, (credits), (prerequisites), (co-requisites), course description, and semesters offered. Catalog description should be exactly as it is to appear in the catalog.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Students attempting to enroll in ARTS 411 have been denied registration without Special Permission because the 300 level painting course ARTS 313 Intermediate Painting III, Portrait, is not listed as an approved prerequisite for any of the 400 level painting courses.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

The addition of ARTS 313 as a prerequisite for ARTS 411 will allow ease of registration for students who are enrolling in 400 level painting courses after having met the area progression in skill building. This change will help in the ability of our majors and minors to complete their upper-level 2D requirements in a timely manner in order to move toward graduation.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

There are no additional costs associated with this change to the course prerequisites.
