COMM 530 Communication to Targeted Audiences (3 credits) This course provides an overview of current issues relevant to particular groups in relation to communication tactics, theories, relationships, etc. Topics may include issues relating to effecting communication with members of various ethnicities, races, genders, and other groups. COMM 530 Communication Across Differences (3 credits) This course provides an opportunity for in-depth understanding and application of theory and practice to communicate effectively across cultural and identity differences. Students develop an understanding of the complex cultural and systemic issues that inform their own identities as well as those that influence various cultures and communities and sustain inequalities. Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

We are adapting this course to reflect current research in intercultural communication and critical cultural communication. This course aims to educate students about issues relate to communication, identity, diversity, difference, equity, and inclusion. This direction is consistent with the academic research within our discipline as well as programs focused on advocating for individuals in marginalized communities.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

This request will enhance our academic program by updating a current course to be a more accurate reflection of our discipline and our program.

No financial costs are associated with this request.

We currently offer COMM 530, but are only changing the course name and course description to better suit our program and the direction of the discipline.
