Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

This change is the result of dealing with a number of student petitions related to the current policy and follows extensive conversations with Brett Simpson and James Solazzo regarding how these changes affect students' completion of core requirements and progress towards graduation. The current policy penalizes students who place into the upper level of a language; it also penalizes students who cannot enroll in the exact course they placed into in a given semester but wish to continue their study of the language by taking a different course.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

It will create a fairer policy for students to obtain retroactive credit and will further encourage students to complete their core requirement at a language best suited to their level of competence.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None.

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

This does not affect the number of courses offered or staffing.
