Current catalog description

(Prereq: BIOL 340 or BIOL 350 or permission of the instructor) (Coreq: BIOL 410L) The course provides an understanding of modern developmental biology and considers classical embryology as well as the molecular basis of development. Topics include gametogenesis and fertilization, embryogenesis, cell differentiation, pattern formation and organogenesis, and cell cycle regulation. Discussion of emerging areas of developmental biology such as cloning, stem cell research, cancer genetics and genomics. F.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

After teaching the same course for 15 years (once a year in Fall), I think the proposed change for pre-req is better aligned with the course, which ties to the student success in the course.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

None that I could think of. Biol 340 is a Biology core requirement, so I don't expect any drop in enrollment for this upper level elective course, and I expect better learning environment for everyone enrolled. This came from observing the difference in students who took Biol 340 versus Biol 350 previously.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

No change.

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

As described above, Biol 340 is already a Biol core that every biology student has to take, I do not expect changing in enrollment or impact on financial costs, either on departmental level, or for students.
