INTL 698 International Experiential Engagement (0 Credits) (Coreq: Participation in a Study Abroad Program) This course exposes students to learning about different cultures, social institutions and languages, as well as about themselves as a member of the global community through their personalized experience in participating in a study abroad program. Students participating in this course will explore their expectations and objectives for studying abroad before departure and complete post-reflection assignments assessing their expected versus actual learning upon completion of the program. Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

To date, there is no way for a graduate student participating in an study, research, or internship abroad to have the notation of the specific international experiential engagement to appear on the student's transcript. This proposal will enable that to happen and proposes an equivalent process at the graduate level as that currently used at the undergraduate level to support the student's participation, reflective experience in review, and affirmation of connectedness to perspective, disciplinary awareness, and personal development as a result of the education abroad program in which they participate.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

The granting of this request will support the inquiry and exploration of adding education abroad to our masters and/or doctoral programs, while keeping the student continuously enrolled and therefore able to (generally) benefit from their financial aid sources. .

What financial costs are associated with this request?

$0 to implement, given very limited number of participants being planned.

The program will rely, with initial limited number of students anticipated in early years, on existing resources and human capital to deliver).
