HIST452 - Death and Human Remains in Public History (3 Credits) This course covers the various fields of Public History in the context of human experience with death and with human remains. Topics may include ethics of display and interpretation of human remains in museums and at other historical spaces, educational programs at sites of death or about death, dark tourism, best practices in public history, and other themes related to death, dying, and human remains. Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

This course provides students another offering in the growing field of Public History. This course could be considered in the Cultural Heritage Certificate program, and will appeal to history majors and minors, as well as those in other related fields. The course is directly related to a junior faculty member's research and field, and students routinely request more courses in public history and around the topics of death, dying, and human remains in history.
