EXSS 495 Q - Internship in Exercise and Sport Science (9 or 12 credits) (Prereq: Admission to Internship: A grade of ‘C’ or better in all Exercise and Sport Science major requirements, completion of all required Exercise and Sport Science coursework and Adviser/Program Approval) Students gain opportunities to apply and further develop their knowledge, skills and abilities through full-time, supervised experiences (350 or 450 hours). Students perform full-time internships in approved exercise or sport science-related facilities such as hospitals, fitness centers, or physical therapy/rehabilitation clinics. F, S, Su.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

We have made this request based on program changes to prepare for future accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE). These changes include the addition of a field experience course (EXSS 397) which will require 35 hours of field experience per academic credit hour. Therefore, to ensure consistency with the required internship hours between EXSS 397 and EXSS 495, the required hours have been adjusted to 315-420 to reflect the same 35 hours per credit hour for both courses.

None, the department currently has a faculty member that serves as an internship coordinator
