Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Based on a recent program assessment, it was determined that one of the departmental student learning outcomes (“Students will be able to apply the skills of scientific inquiry, research, and evaluation in the field of exercise and sport science”) was not sufficiently being addressed. Therefore, we have proposed a new research methods course to strengthen this specific area of our curriculum.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

This course will have a positive impact on our existing academic program as it will build on the current curriculum to further enhance students ability to critically evaluate and utilize scientific research in the field of exercise science.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

The department currently has two faculty lines that have recently been vacated, it is expected that this course could be taught by existing faculty and/or faculty hired to fill the vacant faculty slots.
