Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Per recommendations from the SC Department of Education, the College of Education and Social Sciences is condensing the number of literacy courses offered to meet Read to Succeed requirements. The state recommends that candidates in early childhood and elementary education complete the same course sequence, rather than separate sequences. Thus, elementary education majors will complete these two courses in lieu of two previously assigned literacy courses.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

None - the courses undergoing revision are taught by the same instructors, and will be appropriately subbed out for those in elementary education. The new course syllabi was approved by the SC DOE for meeting Read to Succeed Requirements for those in both elementary and early childhood; the new program reflects the updated standards.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

N/A

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

Again, the courses are being switched out for ones already offered, and taught by the same instructors.
