Current catalog description

NUR 424 Nursing Research. (3) (Prereq: STAT 201, STAT 201L). Provide the student with an overview of the research methods commonly used in nursing research. Ethical/legal issues in health care research are discussed. Emphasis is on evaluating current nursing research for application in evidence-based nursing practice.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

As a foundation for our program, only a general statistics course is needed as a prerequisite for NUR 424, Nursing Research. Generally students take STAT 201 and STAT 201L or they take the course at HGTC that transfers in for STAT 201. Many of the students come in with a previous associate or baccalaureate degree and have taken an equivalent of one of the other statistic courses. Making this change will be consistent with other programs in our department (Public Health, Health Administration) in the flexibility for the students to complete the statistics requirement.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

This will aid with seamless paperwork and limit substitutions having to be done manually when another statistics course is taken.
