COMM 578- Quantitative Research Methods in Communication (3 credits) (Prereq: COMM 576). Introduces graduate students to common quantitative research methods that are applied in the field of communication. Students learn the basics of quantitative research, such as how to collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative data. Topics include research design, data analysis, and reporting/interpretation of results. Offered as needed.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

This new course reflects the addition of Dr. James Ndone to the Communication, Media, and Culture Department graduate faculty in 2021. This new course reflects the Master's in Communication Program's efforts to enhance graduate methods course options and further prepare students for graduate-level quantitative research. Furthermore, this class answers a need for quantitative research skills at the industry/professional level.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

The new class will enhance Communication Master's students existing graduate research methods course options and ensure they are prepared for further graduate studies and/or professional employment. The class will draw from best practices in communication research (readings).

What financial costs are associated with this request?

No financial costs are associated with this request.

We hired Dr. Ndone in the previous year and have additional faculty required to implement and teach this course.
