Faculty daughter celebrates marriage

Carolyn Emily Louise Rice, daughter of the late Samuel Paul Rice and Nelljean Rice and James Patrick Carney, son of Edward and Victoria Carney of Pittsburgh, Penn., were married at Litchfield Plantation on May 20. The ceremony was officiated by Tom Woodle. Music was provided by Amy Tully on flute and Daniel Hull on guitar from a selection of tunes by the American composer Edward McDowell.

Additional music was provided by Jesse Rice, brother of the bride and a songwriter, and Elise Testone (CCU alumna 2005).

"The theme of the wedding was vintage – old wicker furniture, real Coke in bottles," says Nelljean. "The wedding favors were half pints of jam made by Paul's brother's wife and a recipe for Grandma's biscuits provided by Paul's mom, and flowers that looked like they came out of grandma's garden placed in antique canning jars."

Old books served as decor on the wedding tables since "we're a family of English majors – Paul and I, and now Emily and Jim at Davidson."

The couple honeymooned in California and returned to Alexandria, Va., where the groom is in his third year of law school at the Catholic University of America, and Emily is an online team manager for APCOWorldwide, a public relations and marketing firm/
