Chauncey's Champions are making a difference

When Feel the Teal was created, I envisioned a campus culture in which our employees naturally strived to make a positive impact and difference for our customers with each and every interaction. Today, we see more and more employees going above and beyond to make a difference on a regular basis, and I strongly encourage this service focus as a continued part of our culture.

Chauncey's Champions, our new universitywide recognition program, has received more than 260 nominations that recognize the positive impact and service excellence by our employees. The number of nominations alone is something to celebrate. The reviewing committee follows a set criteria for approving nominees as Chauncey's Champions, and 202 of the 260 nominations have been officially recognized as Chauncey's Champions and were awarded the exclusive pullover and recognition program certificate

Here are a few examples of how our Chauncey's Champions are making a difference …

It's the effort of employees like Phillip Eddy and Richard Estabrook from Facilities Management who "went out of their way to retrieve lost keys from a dumpster for a student" that makes a difference.

The work of Christopher Winn made a difference when "he stepped in to cover the responsibilities of a coworker on maternity leave without hesitation or complaint."

Melanie McKeefrey makes a difference when "she goes out of her way to check on faculty in her department who are having stressful days and also listening to them while providing useful suggestions to help."

Suheir Daoud "made a lasting impression and difference to Dr. Zitouni Mimouna, a visiting Fulbright scholar to Coastal Carolina University, through the hospitality and generosity of planning a birthday party for her."

Lastly, it's service from people like Dan Lawless "who took time to give a full tour to a potential student who was lost on campus one weekday" that makes a lasting difference. We have since learned that this same student from Sumter, South Carolina, applied to, was accepted, and has enrolled at Coastal Carolina University!

These are just a few short examples from the multitude of service excellence champions on our campus. I hope you will join me in celebrating our service excellence champions!
