Local businesses share services with students at Fall Community Fair

Local businesses and organizations are invited to share information about their goods and services during Coastal Carolina University’s Fall 2018 Community Fair on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Spadoni Park (located in between the Lib Jackson Courtyard and Wheelwright Auditorium). Businesses must register for the event by Monday, Sept. 10, at noon.

Each year, 30 to 40 businesses and organizations from surrounding communities set up tables and give out information, food and products regarding their businesses. While mostly informational, this event allows community members and students to form connections that encourage students to be more involved in the community outside of campus.

“A big part of the Office of Civic Engagement’s mission is about educating students on the importance of being an engaged citizen,” said Amelia Carte, coordinator for civic engagement in the Office of Student Life. “That includes being a patron of local businesses and being involved in community organizations.”

Both for-profit and nonprofit businesses are encouraged to participate in the event. Registration fees for for-profit businesses are $50; there is no fee for nonprofits to register. Participants are provided with one long table and two chairs for the duration of the event.

The goal of the Community Fair is to show students that CCU is part of the larger Conway and Grand Strand Community. The community fair is an annual event sponsored by the Office of Student Life.
