Academic Integrity Officer named

Mike Pierce has accepted the position of Academic Integrity Officer.

Pierce has served as assistant professor of biology since August 2005. He was a member of the faculty committee that developed the new Academic Integrity Code and has been instrumental in planning the implementation of the new process. He will continue to teach biology full time while serving in this new capacity.

In this new role, Pierce will facilitate the process for reporting violations and resolving infractions, maintain all records pertaining to academic integrity violations and educate the campus community about the Academic Integrity Code.

At the New Student Convocation, students recited the pledge and signed a pledge card to confirm their commitment to the ideals of the code. In the coming weeks, faculty will be given instructions for how to report potential violations. An online system is being implemented which will allow for the collection and maintenance of reports through a centralized record keeping process.
