President DeCenzo sets Town Hall meeting
By David A. DeCenzoI believe in listening. I believe that the key to building the kind of University that will exceed our highest expectations is to listen carefully to the people who care about CCU – students, parents, faculty, staff and the community.
At the start of each academic year, many of us receive communications from our students and their families. I have heard from many parents who have voiced their concerns about the transition of new students to Coastal Carolina University, which for many families is many, many miles from home. I have also heard from students about the ever-present parking situation and from others with ideas for improving services for students. While some of the feedback I receive often reflects the frustration surrounding a particularevent or situation, each of these communications is an important barometer of how we are perceived and a compass directing us toward excellence. We are all obligated to be responsive to serving our students with respect and integrity.
Your voices, too, are critical ingredients in our common pursuit of improvement. To this end, there will be a Town Hall Meeting open to all faculty and staff on Thursday, Sept. 9 from 3 to 4 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. Together with Executive Vice President Eddie Dyer, Provost Rob Sheehan, Senior Vice President Will Garland and other members of the executive staff, I will present an overview of the University’s growth and construction, budget and outlook. There will be ample time for you to ask questions and voice your concerns.
I encourage each member of the faculty and staff to fully engage in the University community by sharing your time, talent and special commitment to Coastal Carolina University. Reach out to students and colleagues, find pride in the many accomplishments we share, attend cultural events and inspiring lectures, support the many campus organizations and activities as a volunteer or donor, and cheer for the Chanticleers.
