Henderson donates personal research library to Colombian university

Retired politics professor and Latin American expert Jim Henderson has donated his 3,000-volume research library to a university in Colombia, South America. The library of books on Colombian history and politics was collected over a 50-year period during Henderson’s distinguished career as a scholar. He has written numerous books and articles on Latin America, specializing in the modern history and culture of Colombia. One of his books, "Victim of Globalization: How Illegal Drugs Destroyed Colombia's Peace," sold out the first week it was released in Colombia in 2012.

Henderson says that the donation and transfer of the books has been a project that has taken several years to accomplish, but within the last two weeks the books were all packed and loaded on a truck that took them to a shipping company in Miami. Their final destination is the Technological University of Bolívar in Cartagena, Colombia.

Henderson says that Karen Williams, administrative specialist in the Department of Politics, was invaluable in assisting him with the paperwork for the book transfer.

Henderson and his wife, business professor Linda Henderson, both joined the CCU faculty in 1986 and retired in 2014. A veteran of the Peace Corps and a Fulbright Scholar, he was the recipient of CCU's 2004 Student Affairs Division Award, which honors faculty who make significant contributions to the quality of student life through participation and leadership in the co-curricular activities of the University.
