15 new staff join Teal Nation; September and October orientations combined

Fifteen new staff members have joined Teal Nation, ranging with start dates from the beginning of September to the day of the October New Employee Orientation.

Hurricane Florence delayed the September New Employee Orientation, forcing it to be combined with October's on Oct. 16. Although a handful of employees have been working for more than a month prior, the new employees learned alongside one another the traditions and knowledge of what it means to be a Chanticleer.

Meet the new employees:

Jessica Hendrick is a teacher in the new Early Childhood Development and Literacy Center, from Aynor, S.C. She is a CCU alumna and has lived in Horry County her enitre life. Her hobbies include traveling and shopping, and she is a big fan of Italian cuisine.

Kristyn Wilhelm comes from Sterling Heights, Mich., to continue her career goals as a new assistant athletic trainer. She enjoys baking, cooking and crafting. Kristyn has been published twice, and she has been on several mission trips in her lifetime. She looks forward to working in a great athletics deparment.

Cindy Alston was born and raised in Conway, S.C., joining the facilities, management and planning team as a custodian. Her favorite foods are steak and fried chicken. Cindy joined the CCU family because she wanted to do something different and meet new people along the way.

Kevin Davis is the new assistant athletic director for media relations within the athletics department. He loves playing with his son, Cooper, in addition to golfing in his free time and watching sports. Originally from Asheville, N.C., Kevin came to CCU for the family setting and atmosphere.

Jacquelyn Crossman joins CCU as an access service specialist in the Kimbel Library. She enjoys traveling, leaving the country at least three times a year. She also has visited Dracula's Castle in Romania. Jacquelyn is originally from Kingfield, Maine.

Ron Rawls is a new second shift custodian from South Conway in Bucksport, S.C. His birthday is on Jan. 12, close to his hero's birthday, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Jan. 15. Ron is an African-American historian, a Bible scholar in progress, and he enjoys watching sports.

Paula Daisey joins University Housing as an administrative assistant. She is originally from Milford, Conn., and enjoys any type of Italian food. Paula enjoys spending time at the beach, as well as with her five grandkids and family.

Kenneth "Tad" Reed is a captain with the Department of Public Safety. He is originally from Columbia, S.C., and enjoys boating and golfing in his free time.

Angie Cartrette joins the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts as an administrative specialist. She was born on the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, originally from Aynor, S.C., but has also lived in England. Angie joined CCU for a chance to grow with the University.

Larry E. Simpkins is a USMC veteran from Rich Creek, Va. He joins CCU as a supply specialist. Larry's favorite food is steak, and he enjoys sports in his free time. He chose to join CCU because of its reputation and the people.

Doug Butters, originally from Westwood, Mass., is a support specialist within Information Technology Services. He enjoys sports in his free time.

Melanie Smith is the internal communications coordinator and University editor within University Communication. Melanie is originally from Bel Air, Md., but has lived in Australia and worked in New York City. She spends her free time blogging, thrift shopping and working out. Melanie hopes to contribute to telling the CCU story.

Scott Benke is the new coordinator of athletic event technology within athletics. You can find him working behind the scenes on game days.

Melissa Sumpter joins custodial services as a first-shift custodian.

Alexander Crocker is an Ellucian Portal and SharePoint administrator within Information Technology Services.

Not pictured:

Maggie Hinson joins athletics as an athletic academic adviser. Originally from Charlotte, N.C., Maggie enjoys Pure Barre classes, watching movies and going to the beach. Her favorite food is anything chocolate!

Robert J. Cleveland III, originally from Middlesex, N.J., is an assistant systems support technician within the Department of Public Safety. Robert's favorite sports are baseball, football and hockey, and his favorite food is chicken parmesan. He chose to join the CCU family because of the environment.
