Coastal Carolina University campus officer wins national honor

A campus police officer at Coastal Carolina University in Conway has been named officer of the year. Charles Kessler, an investigator with Coastal Carolina University’s Department of Public Safety, has been awarded the distinction from the National Association of Campus Safety Administrators, according to a press release from the school.

Travis Dannelly watched his parents’ involvement in local civic organizations growing up, and always knew he wanted to give the same level of commitment to his community. Dannelly was reared in Conway. He graduated from Carolina Forest High School in 2002 before going on to attend Coastal Carolina University. He played football under Coach David Bennett, and went on to work in the banking industry at both First Citizens Bank and CresCom Bank beginning in 2008.

David DeCenzo, the president of Coastal Carolina University, wanted to improve customer service on the campus. He knew how important academic customer service is to enrollment and the University. President DeCenzo wanted to provide faster, friendlier and more accurate help for students. He was intrigued by the idea of a concierge service to help students and turned to newly hired April Betsch to explore the idea.

Meacham establishes endowed scholarship at CCU

Tim Meacham, who serves as university counsel at Coastal Carolina University, has established the Timothy Meacham Endowed Scholarship in Political Science. The gift supports the University’s I’M IN endowment campaign, university officials said, which has a goal of increasing CCU’s endowment by $20 million by 2020. To date, more than $19 million has been raised.

CCU psychology professor receives Fulbright Award to teach in Poland

A Coastal Carolina University professor recently received a Fulbright Award to teach in Poland. A press release says William Hills, a professor of psychology in the university's College of Science, received a Fulbright Award to teach gerontology at the Medical University of Lublin for the 2018-19 school year.

It would be an expansion of the department's bachelor's degree programs in art and graphic design to provide more opportunities for creative students.

You need only to listen to Joe Moglia’s press conference from Sun Belt Conference Media Days in July to know Coastal Carolina has a unique football coach. While the league’s other nine coaches were addressing football issues, Moglia’s 15 or so minutes were taken up with talk of NASA, ISIS, North Korea’s nuclear program, the U.S. military and the 2016 presidential election, with some football sprinkled in. Coastal president David DeCenzo knew he was getting an atypical football coach when he hired Moglia in December 2011.

McMaster creates commission to address flooding, appoints CCU professor as chair

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10804 in Little River, SC went solar this year with the help of a student group from nearby Coastal Carolina University (CCU). The 15.1 kilowatt solar installation will keep the VFW’s electricity bills low, allowing them to spend more of their budget directly on their core mission of serving veterans through camaraderie, veteran advocacy, and programs like job training and financial support.

Josh Norman names scholarships after CCU professors

Coastal Carolina alumnus and Greenwood native Josh Norman has announced that two of the three endowed scholarships he recently established as part of his $1.5 million donation to the university will be named in honor of his two favorite professors in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The Robin E. Russell Scholarship will support students in the department of theatre, and the Linda P. Kuykendall Scholarship will support students in the department of communication, media and culture. The third scholarship is named the Joshua R. Norman Walk-On Student-Athlete Endowed Scholarship.
