Remember to celebrate (and nominate!) our Chauncey's Champions

I am often asked by employees, students and other members of Teal Nation, “How may I recognize someone on campus for their amazing help?” The answer is Chauncey’s Champions!

I continue to hear many outstanding stories of service excellence and employees going above and beyond to positively impact our campus through this recognition program. For example, Susan Failing in University Housing stepped up when a staff member left the University to oversee an additional housing community. “She gives the best customer service to her students through her programming efforts and diligence in supervising her resident assistants,” her Chauncey’s Champion nomination reads.

The Chauncey’s Service Excellence Champions program is in its second year of regularly awarding employees with recognition for their service. During its first year, approved Chauncey’s Champions received a certificate and an exclusive teal pullover. This year, the gift is a 32-ounce Yeti® tumbler!

Chauncey’s Champion is a program designed to recognize employees who have gone above and beyond in specific and tangible ways. Areas of recognition must be tied back to the following reasons and values related to service:

• Reliability: Provides dependable and honest service by going above and beyond for customers.

• Responsiveness: Promptly offers excellent and efficient service that creates a fast and friendly experience.

• Assurance: Acts knowledgably to listen and creatively solve problems for others.

• Empathy: Demonstrates excellent care and understanding.

• Tangibles: Displays, improves and serves others through professional tangibles in all settings.

I look forward to seeing more employees recognized and awarded through the program over the next few months. I strongly encourage all employees to use this program when hearing about or observing exceptional customer service interactions. You can nominate a fellow coworker by using the online form here. Every month, one of the approved nominees is selected for a feature story in this newsletter. Featured this month is Beth Javener from University Recreation. And don’t forget, once a year, one nominated faculty and staff member are selected by the committee as the Outstanding Service Excellence Champions of the Year!

It is my hope that this program will continue to serve as a visible reminder to our community of the service priority we have here at Coastal Carolina University. Feel the Teal® is an initiative and program that remains successful because of the effort and work of YOU, our employees. Chauncey’s Champions is a unique and spontaneous way that we can all unite as members of Teal Nation in an effort to celebrate our successes.

Sincerely,

David A. DeCenzo
President
