Founder of CCU inducted to 2019 South Carolina Educator Hall of Fame

Three accomplished South Carolina public school graduates and three lifelong educators were honored at the South Carolina Foundation for Educational Leadership's third annual gala on Friday, March 29, 2019. One of the three lifelong educators posthumously honored was Joseph Kenyon "Ken" East. East was inducted into the South Carolina Educator Hall of Fame for his impact on public education in South Carolina.

A graduate of Lineville High School (Lineville, Ala.) in 1929, East started the first public kindergarten program in South Carolina. He was immensely responsible for the founding of what is now Coastal Carolina University and is considered the “Father of Adult Education in South Carolina.”
