CCU hosts S.C. Women in Higher Education conference

Coastal Carolina University recently hosted the 2011 S.C. Women in Higher Education Conference on Feb. 25. The 23rd annual Martha Kime Piper Award was bestowed on Christine Curtis, senior vice provost at the University of South Carolina.

Curtis was recognized for her leadership, commitment and participation in support of advancing women in higher education and the education of South Carolina women. She earned her doctorate in analytical chemistry at Florida State University and taught graduate courses in the department of chemical engineering at Auburn University. She currently manages the faculty development programs and related matters for the Provost's Office at USC.

Charmaine Tomczyk, SCWHE executive board member and director for undergraduate research at CCU, served as the chair of the Piper Award Review Committee and is incoming president of SCWHE for fall 2011.
