Jody Davis resigns as women's tennis head coach

Coastal Carolina women’s tennis head coach Jody Davis has resigned from his position as head coach and will focus exclusively on his duties as the University’s Director of Campus Recreation.

Davis recently completed his 15th season and ends his career with a 241-90 overall record and a .728 winning percentage.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Coastal Carolina administration for providing me with an opportunity to coach at this great university,” Davis said. “The friendships and relationships that I have developed with players, coaches and administrators will be wonderful lifelong memories."

A native of Conway, Davis made the Chanticleers perennial contenders in the Big South Conference, posting winning records in each of his 15 seasons and a stellar 100-31 (.763) record in league play, including a 35-9 mark over the past seven regular seasons.

Davis has guided the Chanticleers to two Big South championships (2001, 2011) and two NCAA Tournament appearances (2001, 2007) in his tenure as head coach. He ended his career in style by leading the Chants to the 2011 Big South regular season championship after posting a 7-1 record in league play. Coastal finished last season with a 21-6 overall record to mark the second-most victories in school history.

Davis brought the program to new heights in 2001 when Coastal Carolina reached 20 wins for the first time in school history. The Chanticleers also swept through the Big South and finished the season with an undefeated 9-0 record in conference. Coastal went on to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

In 2005, Davis led the Chanticleers to a school-record 22 wins and has guided Coastal to at least 15 wins in every year since. Davis has also guided Coastal to at least four wins in Big South play in each of his 15 seasons, and the Chants have finished above .500 in conference every season.

During Davis' tenure, the program has seen six Big South Player of the Year award winners, four Rookie of the Year honors, 40 All-Conference players and three Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winners.

Davis has been named Big South Coach of the Year five times, which included his selection as the 2011 Co-Coach of the Year. He was also named the 2006 South Carolina Coach of the Year by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) of South Carolina.

The Chanticleers have also excelled academically under the director of Davis. They made the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team (3.2 GPA or higher) for the 12th consecutive season. In addition,  64 of Davis' players have been recognized as ITA Academic All-American (3.5 GPA or higher).
