'New Harmonies' on exhibit in Conway; concert set for CCU

"New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music" opened on June 11 at the Conway Library and will be on display through July 16.

The exhibit, which focuses on traditional American musical styles, is sponsored by the Humanities Council SC and the Smithsonian Institute’s Museums on Main Street program.

One of the exhibit programs is a "Muse on the Waccamaw" concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16 in the Edwards Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University. The top contestants from the songwriting contest will perform in front of a panel of judges who will award a first place winner in several categories.

Phillip Cheney, a speaker, musician and storyteller with the Humanities Council, will lead a discussion titled "Celebrating Civil War Music" at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 at the L.W. Paul Living Farm near Conway. Local re-enactors will set up an encampment all day at the farm, recreating camp life during the American Civil War. The L.W. Paul Living History Farm is located at the corner of Harris Short Cut Road and U.S. 701 N. in Conway.

These events are free and open to the public.
