Campbell wins bronze in hammer throw

GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Coastal Carolina track and field alumnus Amber Campbell captured the Bronze Medal for the United States in the hammer throw at the Pan American Games on Oct. 24 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Campbell, a five-time All-American while wearing the Chanticleer uniform, finished with a final distance of 69.93 meters (229-5). Yipsi Moreno of Cuba won the event with a distance of 75.62 (248-1) followed by Sultana Frizell of Canada with a throw of 70.11 (230-0).

Campbell, a 2004 graduate, represented the United States in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, finishing 21st in the hammer competition, and is expected to represent the United States at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Campbell continues to serve as a volunteer assistant track and field coach at Coastal and annually hosts the Amber Campbell Hammer Throw Invitational each March in conjunction with the CCU/Shamrock Track and Field Invitational.
