CCU shines in recent rankings

By David A. DeCenzo. President of CCU

Everyone associated with Coastal Carolina University should take pride in the bumper crop of accolades we have received this fall. Within the past two months, CCU has received very favorable rankings in four national collegiate surveys. The rankings reflect the quality and the value CCU offers as an institution of higher education. These distinctions indicate our rising status among our peer institutions – and they give us a sense of perspective that allows us to see where we've come from and how much more we can achieve.

U.S. News and World Report, the best-known of all national collegiate ranking surveys, has ranked CCU 26th of Top Public Schools in the South in the "Regional Universities" category. A regional university is defined as an institution that provides a full range of undergraduate and master's degree programs but few, if any, doctoral programs.

CCU was also ranked among the top 15 regional public universities in the South in the "Great Schools, Great Prices" category in the U.S News and World Report rankings.

For the third consecutive year, CCU has been included in the "America's Best College" listings compiled by Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. Also for the third year, we were named one of "America's 100 Best College Buys" by Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc., an independent research firm.

One other accolade CCU received recently was unrelated to academics. For the second consecutive year, we were named a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs magazine. This designation recognizes our commitment to assist veterans in earning a university degree. More than 200 student veterans are enrolled at CCU, and we provide an array of veteran services and programs that is unique in higher education.

Our inclusion in these rankings is a result of your expertise, dedication, and ability to work together creatively in serving our students. While high rankings in themselves are not the goal we seek, I am confident that as we continue to challenge ourselves in our mission to provide our students with the best possible education, Coastal Carolina University will earn even greater accolades in the future.
