Grad student advances in local singing competition

Brian Druckenmiller, Coastal Carolina University graduate student and Atheneum contributor, recently advanced to the regional finals in the Talent Quest National Karaoke Singing Competition.

On April 18, Broadway Louie’s at Broadway at the Beach hosted the regional semi-finals for the competition. Ten country and 10 pop/rock singers each performed two songs, and were judged on vocal ability, stage presence and stage appearance. The top two scorers in each category advanced to the finals, which takes place on Aug. 1, at Broadway Louie’s.

Druckenmiller scored 268 points by singing “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness and “All These Things That I’ve Done” by the Killers, placing second in the pop/rock category.

Winners of the finals will go on to the national competition on Sept. 17 through 22 at the Tropicana Hotel/Casino and River Palms Hotel/Casino in Laughlin, Nev.

Druckenmiller is a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Writing program, concentrating on creative writing. He is currently a graduate assistant in the Office of University Communication and associate producer for CCU’s weekly television program “Coastal Today.”
