Henderson's new book a bestseller in Colombia

James Henderson's new book, "Victim of Globalization: How Illegal Drugs Destroyed Colombia's Peace," sold out the first week after it was released in Colombia.

"Half of the first 1,000-copy print run was taken by a Mexican distributor and the other half by a Colombian bookstore chain," said Henderson, a professor of politics who has been a CCU faculty member since
1986.

The book is a comprehensive account of the export drug trade in Colombia, from both an economic and a human perspective. Beginning with the country's marijuana traffic in the late 1960s, the book offers a historical overview of Colombia's narcotics activities, which has taken some 300,000 lives in the past 30 years.

In late April, Henderson participated in an International Book Fair in Bogotá, at which his book was featured in a large display sponsored by publisher Siglo del Hombres Editores. As part of the event he delivered a talk about his personal recollections of the development of Colombia's illegal drug trade and its attending violence. Henderson and his family have visited, and sometimes lived in, Colombia since 1966.
