Oxley receives Zonta honor

Julinna Oxley was honored with the Zonta's Gold Star Award on Aug. 4 for her work to advance women's causes. Zonta also presented a check to Women In Philanthropy and Leadership for $1,000 for a scholarship to a CCU student.

The Gold Star Award is given to women who show exemplary service in their community. According to Ruth Walker, Zonta president, Oxley received the award for her role as a founding member of CCU's Women's Resource Center and for supporting the Women in Leadership conferences, Nancy Smith Visiting Scholar Series and International Women's Day.

Oxley, assistant professor of philosophy and director of Women's and Gender Studies, joined the Coastal Carolina University faculty in 2006. Oxley is also co-director of the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values Summer Ethics Academy.

Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
