Grad student finishes second in local singing competition.

Brian Druckenmiller, Coastal Carolina University graduate student and Atheneum contributor, was back rocking the microphone at Broadway Louie’s in Myrtle Beach for the finals of the regional Talent Quest competition.

Four singers in the country category and four in pop/rock each performed three songs and were judged on vocal ability, stage presence and stage appearance. The top scorer in each category will receive airfare, hotel and the contest entry fee for the national Talent Quest competition in Laughlin, Nev., in September.

Druckenmiller, representing pop/rock, scored 523 points by singing “Black Water” by The Doobie Brothers, “All These Things That I’ve Done” by The Killers, and “Sunday Morning” by Maroon 5. He placed second, being edged out by a mere two points by Margo Smith, who scored 525.

Druckenmiller is a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Writing program, concentrating on creative writing. He works in the Office of University Communication as well as the Sustainability Initiative. In August, he begins his graduate teaching assistantship with the Department of English.
