CCU staffer is a 'FURever' animal lover

Chris Donevant Haines recently won the Native Sons Project Tee contest. The T-shirt design reads "Adoption is FURever," and 144 shirts will be printed and donated to the Grand Strand Humane Society for fundraising efforts.

Haines, who is a counselor at CCU, has been volunteering at the Grand Strand Humane Society. "My shirt idea is to have it say something encouraging people to rescue/adopt animals from shelters and rescue groups and to always remember that adopting a pet is a 'FURever' commitment," says Haines. "I'd also like to encouarge people to always spay or neuter their pets to try to help solve the problem of animal overpopulation in shelters."

Haines recently adopted one of the dogs she had been spending time with at GSHS. "She's my first shelter dog, and my other two came from rescue groups," says Haines. "She was turned in after experiencing a rather expensive medical problem that her owners were not prepared to pay for. One was a breeding mother who could no longer produce puppies and was tossed aside. My other was turned in with a serious case of heartworms that in just a bit more time would have killed him."
