Amber Campbell goes to the White House

Coastal Carolina University alumna Amber Campbell '04 was honored by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at a ceremony held on the South Lawn of the White House on Sept. 14. As a member of Team USA, Campbell received a hug and words of praise from President Obama.

It was a moment Campbell describes on her Facebook page as “an honor.” The President made certain he met with each team member. In statements given during his speech, Obama said his tight schedule would prevent him from shaking everyone’s hand, but in the end he did just that, allowing Campbell to get the photo of “me and my President.”

Campbell competed in the hammer throw during the London summer games, finishing sixth in the qualifying round. She previously competed in the 2008 Olympic games, held in Beijing, China. Campbell lives in Myrtle Beach, where she is a volunteer assistant coach at CCU, as well as a managing partner of Sports Doctors Inc., where she also works as a trainer.
