Albergotti invited to Southern Literary Festival

Coastal Carolina University poet and professor Dan Albergotti was among several widely acclaimed authors at the Southern Literary Festival March 28 to 30 at Columbus State University.

Albergotti, who has a new chapbook coming out soon, is the author of "Boatloads," selected by Edward Hirsch as the winner for the 2007 A. Poulin Jr. Poetry Prize. He did a poetry reading and question-and-answer session with Natasha Trethewey, the 19th U.S. poet laureate.

Other participants were Tim O'Brien ("The Things They Carried"), novelist Kevin Wilson ("Tunneling to the Center of the Earth") and creative nonfiction writer Madge McKeithen ("Blue Peninsula").

Albergotti, who teaches poetry and creative writing, will also be featured at Brookgreen Gardens ini the Poetry Garden on Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 3 p.m. in honor of National Poetry Month.
