Greeks gather to help hunger effort

By Hayes McLeod, CCU student

On Monday, Jan. 20, more than 550 students from the Greek community, along with faculty, staff and other volunteers participated in Stop Hunger Now.

Established in 1998, Stop Hunger Now has a mission to end hunger across the globe. During this volunteer event, dehydrated meals of high nutrition composed of 21 essential vitamins, soy, vegetables, rice, and other seasonings are packaged for shipment. Stop Hunger Now has also helped in disaster relief efforts by delivering clothes, school supplies, medical and food supplies to 65 different countries.

At the end of the day, the volunteers packaged more than 30,000 meals. Not only did the Greek community spend time volunteering for the event, but they also plan to raise $7,500 to help fund the materials for the meals.

As service is a major part of all Greek organizations, the Greek community could not think of a better service to our contro than by participating in this event.
