CCU faculty competes in state park challenge

Several CCU faculty and staff competed in the five-hour Myrte Beach State Park's Amazing Race on Saturday, March 1.

Gwen Fowler, communication lecturer, and Gina Barker, assistant professor of communication, comprised a team of two.  Karen Flecher, pre-award services manager in research services, and Cathy Scott, assistant professor of education, also were a team.

The race covered six to eight miles around the park and called on the 11 two-person teams to use eveything from strength and stamina to wits to complete challenges such as building a fire, identifying frogs, playing bocce ball and navigating obstacle courses.

From Fletcher's blog: "Each volunteer was awarded a park medal for their efforts during the event. And then each participant was awarded a park medal (a medal cut from the center of a tree). The top three teams were awarded special park medals and a prize. Additional prizes were raffled off to the remaining teams. Prizes included a park pass, a fishing pass, a golf package, campsites at various State Parks around South Carolina, and even a cabin stay at one of the South Carolina State Parks. Our team was called, and we received a two-night camping trip to Table Rock State Park!"
