Feel the Teal – Heating up over summer

Summer might appear to be a slow time for CCU, but it certainly doesn’t feel that way on campus. Activity is all around us. Buildings are under construction, freshman and transfer students are attending Orientation, summer classes are in full swing, and many faculty and staff are moving from one office to another. With so much going on, it is important to remind everyone to work as a team and to implement the lessons learned from the Feel the Teal Service Excellence Initiative.

CCU staff members should have attended the first four modules of Feel the Teal by now and know the five basic steps of service, the importance of having a positive attitude, the significance of civility on campus, and CCU’s history and traditions. These trainings emphasize the need to be “other focused” and service oriented with both our external and internal customers. We work as a team, as one unit at Coastal Carolina University. It brings me great joy when I hear stories of our employees working together and helping each other to “feel the teal” throughout the summer.

There are many exciting things to come with the Feel the Teal program, and we are using the summer to effectively plan the next phase of this initiative. The Feel the Teal Leadership Team is made up of approximately 65 people, and they are meeting on Aug. 5 to address and discuss Phase III. Phase III includes adding three more training modules, developing a universitywide recognition program and implementing Feel the Teal with the faculty.

Summer is an exciting time as we do all we can to prepare for the upcoming academic year. CCU is committed to providing not only a quality education, but also a university experience that features service excellence and ensures student success. Please know how much I appreciate and value all the work our faculty, staff, student workers and volunteers do during the summer for Coastal Carolina University!

Sincerely,
David A. DeCenzo, Ph.D.
President
