CCU student interns in congressman's office

Coastal Carolina University sophomore Tyler Wyeth recently concluded a summer internship in Washington, D.C., with Congressman Tom Rice, who represents the 7th Congressional District.

Wyeth is pursuing a major in political science and says this type of experience will help prepare him for his future. His internship began on May 22 and will end in early July.

Wyeth calls Conway home, but his career aspirations may take him abroad. He is particularly interested in foreign policy, trade policy, international relations and international conflict. During his internship, Wyeth attended Congressional hearings, committee hearings, wrote, reported and discussed legislation.

“My favorite issue we have discussed so far was determining how to finance the international Islamic party, Hezbollah,” says Wyeth. “We discuss issues involving sanctions, how the group acquires its money and more.”

When Wyeth isn’t working toward his career goals, he enjoys going to the beach, playing baseball, soccer and kayaking. After his time at CCU, he hopes to attend graduate school.

Tyler Wyeth is a son of Rob and Stacy Wyeth, who are both employed at CCU. Rob is the director of visual image in the University Communication, and his wife, Stacy, is the assistant registrar for Student Records.
