CCU getting a Chick-Fil-A

The grand opening of a Chick-fil-a Express at Coastal Carolina University is set for Sept. 15.

Housed in the CINO Grille, the complex will be separate from the current food court and will have its own registers and soda fountains.

“From start to finish, the planning and construction process took about two years,” says Jeffrey Stone, director of food services at CCU. “As the campus grows, we need to expand to meet students’ needs. Student surveys we conducted indicated that our chicken brand was Chick-fil-a.”

Students will be able to use their “dining dollars” as part of their meal plan, but the new service will also accept most credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover or cash.

CCU’s Chick-fil-a will be what’s called a “Chick-fil-a Express.” These variations of the original restaurant offer the top 15 to 20 items on the menu and are often found in malls.

There’s a great bonus, too: Chick-fil-a is a restaurant that has similar customer service ideals as CCU. The Feel the Teal initiative will once again be communicated to students, faculty, staff and guests. “Chick-fil-a is a very well-liked brand that brings great chicken to campus at a very good price,” says Stone. “The Chick-fil-a experience is customer-centered and will help students and guests feel like they are part of the family.”
