Wal-Mart gives CCU check for $6,500

Coastal Carolina University President David A. DeCenzo received a $6,500 donation from Grand Strand area Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores during a CCU Welcome Week event on Aug. 15 at the Carolina Forest Wal-Mart.

Area Wal-Mart stores pooled together the cash donation, and store managers presented it to DeCenzo in front of the Wal-Mart store on U.S. 501 South near the CCU campus. The contribution will be deposited into a fund of the Coastal Educational Foundation (CEF) to benefit students.

The check presentation took place during an event featuring various vendors, including T-Mobile, Snyder’s-Lance, Frito Lay, Coca Cola, Pepsi and many others.

Shoppers, including many CCU students and families, received free food and drinks, and raffle tickets were sold for various items including four $50 gift cards, eight pairs of Pelicans game tickets and four Pelicans season parking passes.

Chauncey, CCU's mascot, was also on hand to greet visitors, pose for pictures and distribute CCU merchandise.
