CCU Press, profs participate in health fair in Choppee

South Carolina artist Jonathan Green will visit the Choppee Health Complex in Georgetown from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11, for the 2GoodHEALTH4Life event. 

Green’s presentation will focus upon the correlation between youth, culture and health. The event is co-hosted by Georgetown County Diabetes CORE Group, AARP of South Carolina and YoungStroke.

The Athenaeum Press at CCU will present two presentations by faculty from the Edwards College of Humanities & Fine Arts. Edward Crawford, Ph.D., will discuss praise house songs and song leaders of St. Helena Island and the Gullah culture of South Carolina. Maggi Morehouse, Ph.D., will discuss the accomplishments and challenges faced by African American soldiers during and after WWII which are rarely documented and researched. Courses are scheduled at 9 am and 10 am, respectively.

Live musical performances will be provided by the CCU Jazz Ensemble directed by Matt White, Ph.D.

Exhibitors include the Athenaeum Press at CCU, Badcock Furniture and More, Georgetown County Library, Consumer Health, Walmart, Sons of Allen and Charlotte Jenkins’s Gullah Cuisine.
