Cam Terwilliger, teaching associate at Coastal Carolina University, has been awarded a $871 grant by the South Carolina Arts Commissio. The support will allow Terwilliger to attend the annual conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP in Minneapolis from April 8 to 11.

“AWP will allow me to advance my craft, make contacts that will lead to publication, and hone my skills as a teacher of writing,” Terwilliger said. “I’m also very much looking forward to representing South Carolina at such a prominent gathering, doing what I can to make our state part of the national literary conversation.”

An instructor of creative writing at CCU, Terwilliger has published writing in a number of literary magazines, including West Branch, Electric Literature, Post Road and Narrative, where he was selected as one of the magazine's “15 Under 30.” In addition to the arts commission grant, his fiction has been supported by fellowships from the Fulbright Program, the James Jones First Novel Fellowship, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Elizabeth George Foundation.
