Coastal Carolina Baseball plays ball in new home

It’s official – Baseball has a new home!

The Coastal Carolina baseball program opened its new home - Springs Brooks Stadium - by hosting the seventh annual Caravelle Resort Tournament Feb. 13-17.

The Chanticleers welcomed 2014 NCAA Regional team Old Dominion, projected 2015 NCAA Regional teams Maryland and Canisius and Western Kentucky.

After playing off campus for the past two years, the Coastal Carolina baseball program christened its new facility - Springs Brooks Stadium - with a 4-0 victory over Old Dominion (0-1) before a crowd of 1,736, the largest CCU turnout for an on-campus, regular-season baseball game.

The game was the season opener for both teams. Prior to the game, head coach Gary Gilmore, who is in his 20th season at CCU and 26th as a head coach, threw out the ceremonial first pitch and kissed home plate as the game fulfilled a long-time dream of having this state-of-the-art facility.
