Dyer Institute Leadership Delegation travels to Washington

Fifteen Coastal Carolina University students recently traveled to Washington, D.C., as the first Dyer Institute Leadership Delegation sponsored by the Edgar Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy.

The students were from various colleges on campus and were members of Chant Leaders, Jackson Scholars, Edwards Fellows and leaders from the Department of Politics and Geography.

While in Washington, the group had the opportunity to meet with Scott Graber from Senator Lindsay Graham’s office, Rep. Tom Rice and Sen. Tim Scott. The delegation also had time to visit many national monuments and memorials, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon Memorial, where they saw the Changing of the Guard. They toured the Capitol, the U.S. National Botanic Garden and enjoyed an evening with the American Ballet at the Kennedy Center. Several of the students also had the opportunity to sit in on a Supreme Court oral argument.

The trip will become an annual event that will coincide with the Edgar Dyer Alumni Dinner in Washington D.C.
